hi guys, we were given a packard bell 1.8 ghz celeron to re build, we have put new parts in :- 128 video card
1 gig memory
160 hard drive
dvd burner
also lcd monitor
i have the xp disk to format with.
before formatting,we turned it on ,the tower noise was there & the monitor light at bottom,the rom draw won`t open & the screen stays black,beeps & white writing says " no signal" any help would be appreciated as i have never had this problem before, my daughter suggested it was a power pack problem,but i thought if it was how come the tower has its running noise,thank you......

Is the beeping coming from the monitor or the tower? If it's coming from the tower, which I'm guessing it is because I've never heard a monitor beep before although that doesn't mean there are some that do for what ever reason, is there a pattern to it or is it just a repeating single beep? If there's a pattern, give us the band and model of the motherboard and we can find what the code means. Unfortunately, there's not a standard beep code across all brands of mobo's. If it's a repeating single beep, it's usually a ram issue. The 3 things I would check is to make sure the video card and ram is seated properly and that the cpu fan is working. If that fails and you have more than 1 stick of ram, try removing 1 at a time and rebooting.

hi xeno1,thanks for the input,there is only 1 gig of memory,as i am typing,we are trying all your suggestions, & yes it is continously beeping,i will let you know shortly

xeno1,everything has been rechecked,seems ok,but beeping is still coming from tower continuosly,what a pain it is !!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have another stick of ram, maybe from another computer you can temporarily replace in this computer to see if that fixes it?

You might not have a strong enough PSU (Power Supply Unit) or the cables are loose. What is the wattage of your PSU?

Also, how many beeps occur? Is it several, 1 long beep, 1 short beep, etc.?
