Default Video Card or Something else?

Hello everyone, I'm sorry if I missed another topic on here, but I'm already in a bit of trouble!

See, I went on my Dell Windows Home XP laptop this morning twice, and everything was fine, I go on this afternoon, and the screen is black. After putting a flashlight to the screen, I see that it's obviously just something with the Brightness, but I can put the Brightness to the highest, and there's no change at all. The only thing odd about this, is when I turn off the computer, the Dell Screen at the beginning is still lit for about a second or two, or it might go for a minute and drop back to the low screen setting. I've tried everything I know, and this seems like my last hope, or I'm considering it broke, even though its' on 4 years old. Hope that helps you with a solution as well, and yes, I'm barely getting through this on the same laptop.

Hi there and welcome to PC Help Forum

Can you try first of all, plugging the laptop into an external monitor.

I was thinking about doing that, but I don't have the cords required to do that at the time. My house is getting re-done, and that's one of the things that was packed away. Is there something else I could do to connect it to one?

Hmmm...no, not really. This simple test will tell you/us whether it's the monitor or the graphics card (or other).

You might get something if you have an S-Video connector on the lappy and hook it to a TV.

Alright then, since it seems like the only choice, I'll see what I can do.

Alright, I've got some cables and I've tried it on 1 External Monitor. It says that it does not detect anything, but I don't think I allowed it, in any case, I have one other that may work, unless a No Detect is something that may lead to a solution.

Edit: It seems I might of hit something good, it works fine on the monitor.
