Default Windows Recovery Console Issue

My PC isn't starting since it's missing some files, so I tried to recover it using the Recovery Console but I can't seem to get past the first part. This is what it looks like:

1: C\WINDOWS

Which Windows installation would you like to log onto
(To cancel, press ENTER)?

After the question mark, I type 1 and nothing happens. What should I do/press?

Hi and to PCHF you need to do a repair install not via recovery console type exit and press enter to get out of there. Do it this way below

1.
When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
2.
Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.
3.
Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.
4.
In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
5.
Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
6.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Thanks for the quick reply, but everytime I try to repair windows like that, I get a BSOD immediately after clicking F8 to agree with the licensing agreement.

I believe it is SP2, but I have successfully repaired windows using this same disc. Any idea why it isn't working this time?
