Post Windows XP Pro thinks it's running NT! What?

I really hope someone can help with this. I've created a new folder on my desktop for all the new digital scrapbooking images I've been collecting. I've collected over 1000 images. Whenever I go into this folder to look at the images, I get a Windows Explorer error message that says it needs to shut down. Here is the error signature:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5755 Offset: 00037453

I have Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, and have IE7 installed, although I am using Mozilla Firefox as my default browser.

Any ideas as to what the problem is here?

Hello Oberz, Welcome to PCHF!

We have a great team of techs here as well as a very knowledgeable member community and I am sure we can help you

Try checking your system files, recommend you go to the Accessories
Right click on Command Prompt
Click on Run as administrator
Enter: sfc /scannow
There is a space between "c" and "/".
This could take from minutes to hours to run.

Post back with any results and if running that does not help one of our techs will be able to help you further

Hello & Welcome Oberz3!

Windows NT - the naming convention - came to an end with NT 4.x

Windows XP - is built based on the the Windows NT code as is every version of Windows since. That is a legitimate DLL file referenced in the error.

Please follow Smokeycheech's suggestion to perform the System File Check (sfc).

Look forward to hearing an update.

As it does it when you go into one folder i would check the drive for errors as well. In Explorer right click select properties then tools and check the drive it may say it cant do it and ask if it can do it on startup if so say yes

Hey there SmokeyCheech . . . I've been trying to follow your suggestion, though I cannot log on as administrator. I am set up as Owner, and I'm the only one who's had this computer so I don't know what to do. Will the scan work if I run it as Owner?
