Hi every1,
Just signed up after reading 1 of the posts from freepchelp i was wondering if there was any1 about who was covering my problems:
s-VIDEO pROBLEMS - Computer Support Forums - FreePCHelp.co.uk
"If you can still access it"
but i have a problem with running my desktop at all now i started out with Ram problems so took the chance and decided to do a moterboard swap so put in a new board and processor (bought 2nd hand) kept all 3 HardDrive's (1 IDE, 1 SATA and 1 external) kept my wifi card, graphics card and sound card installed both printers and the scanner, floppy and CD drive. All was good apart from 2 minor issues the S-Video port has ceased to work even after all the drivers had been installed (VGA was fine) and the machine would not boot up if my external USB drive was plugged in (MAXTOR 1TB USB 2.0)
So i spent nearly 2 weeks in the forum chatting to folk making friends and trying many many different solutions. Tired of failure i decided to try and go back to the old board and processor changed everything back to how it was only with the RAM problem fixed, to discover i could only now boot into safe(not that i knew wot to do to solve anything there)mode.
Frustrated with this i did my third rebuild back onto the new board and processor to find that now this was doing the same.
It loads into windows when i first turn it on(after maybe an hours rest) without giving me any choices, than it will crash after about 15 mins, the monitor goes off but the machine continues to run, after a reboot it gives me the options to boot into safe mode, safe mode with network, last known good config., start normally. i have tried start normally but this just crash at the windows loading screen so i have also tried safe mode which works fine but surely i dont want to be in safe mode i cant do anything.
Any help would be apreciated
PS Thanks RandyL for posting about this forum

first, does the pc work with out the usb drive? second, did you ever think that the video card is the problem, try another or if there is an intergrated one, check the bios settings.

To me sounds like a component failure perhaps caused by overheating.
Try Your PC temperatures can be tested by downloading from here: Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer Any Flames?

Hi gazza;
Sorry the other forum wasn't able to continue support. I'm sure the members and team here will work hard to assist you. Just to add a little bit here for the others did you at any time reinstall Windows when you were switching the motherboards around. rklpctt and elpmek bring up good points that it sounds like a hardware component. What with switching parts you might want to reseat your components just to see if one may not be plugged in tightly or correctly. Glad you found your way to this forum. |

You MIGHT be able to get away with last known good config, or you might need to do a Windows Repair (some times Windows doesn't like major hardware changes). In terms of the USB drive, let's get the major problem out of the way first.

I have tried 2 grapics cards now still the same.
I have tried to boot both with and with out the USB drive attactched. with, it will only get as far as checking drives then just freeze. without, it will get as far as the windows loading screen then just go black. I have tried last known good config but that was the same. And yes i have reinstalled windows on each swapping of the board. No the machine does not seem to be to hot and no flames either Have not tried a repair install yet but my neighbour will be round to look at it shortly i will let you know how he gets on. |
