DCiAdmin thanks for your help, you have helped me understand a cloudy issue. I looked underneath my 6400 and yup a small thin white service tag and a larger multi-coloured COA sticker with a product key number and Windows XP Home Edition printed clearly.
And on the 4100 the same but with Windows XP Professional.

If you look .. I've been posting on this same subject on this forum (and a couple of others) about the same laptop for two and a half years.
Yes I know its a pity that we cant all be as smart as you or as efficient etc etc. I live in Scotland and my mum lives in Ireland and no my mum does not remember her password.
I just bought the C-bay drive and the 3-pin adaptor online and picked it up from the depot in Cambuslang.
Of course .. I know you personally would have preferred to load up the OS by osmosis or spin it yourself with your big head!
