Default Can't boot up - please help!

Help! I loaded the Nokia Suite to connect my phone to my computer. Now, the PC won't boot up. I don't know if the Nokia program did it, but it's the only thing I did prior to the prob.

It starts up, gets as far as showing the Windows logo & then reboots again.... over & over if I let it. On the DOS page which shows the 'start normally' or 'safe mode' options, selecting safe mode doesn't work. It spits out a whole lot of DOS writing & then just reboots again. The DOS page before the 'safe mode' option page gives the option to open the 'Windows Recovery Console' but this option just takes me to the 'blue screen of death'. This tells me to start up in Safe mode & uninstall recent software/hardware, but of course I can't get that far.

The blue screen says...
Unmountable Boot Volume
Check hardware & software & removed anything newly installed. Disable BIOS memory options.
Technical:
STOP: 0x000000ED (0x86312870, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Thankfully I have another computer on my network, so that's what I'm using ATM. A lot of my work is on the other one tho & I'm desperate.

HI loosie,
Here's some reading for you on the subject
When you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP, you receive the "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error message
Whilst you're taking a look I'll mark this as Open to encourage a responce from those in the know

Thanks so much Driver Ian. Anyone else with tips more than welcome!

Can't believe how quick you replied too! I somehow lost the link to this site & have asked for help repeatedly on a few other forums since this happened 2 weeks ago!

OK, that didn't help.

The second parameter isn't 0xC0000032(it's 0xC0000006), so it's not because the file system is damaged. I don't know anything about UDMA hard disk controllers or relevant cables, but the computer's been fine for the last few months, so can't see how that could be the issue.

So I'm going to check out Microsoft support next.... but knowing how frustrating & potentially expensive that will be, any other suggestions????

Oh, BTW, I noticed I forgot to tell you that it's Windows XP - I think home ed, not sure which SP, but obviously can't check now. The Nokia Suite is ed 7.1 & the USB cable(was unplugged before the prob started) is the USB type with a plug like a camera fitting but smaller. Sorry can't give more info on that - my hubby's got the phone, software & cables at work with him.

How old is this box loosie as the error Unmountable boot volume all most always indicates a dead or dying hard drive.

Aargh! Don't tell me that! I only bought it a couple of months ago, cleaned out & reconditioned, apparently no errors of any kind on the HD... have no idea how old it is, it's an Intel PIIII.

If it is in it's death throes, is there any way I can get my files off it??

Oh yes that's easy enough but first lets try a repair install, this means that the system files are re-written and all your stuff is left intact.

Have a thorough read of this and I'm hoping you have your XP disk to hand.

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

Also consider this but it's slightly more technical.
