hi i am trying to convert from fat 32 to ntfs in command prompt i typed CONVERT C:/FS:NTFS and i got the message "convert not available for RAW drives" can anybody tell me why? thanks

Yes, it's very simple.
The drive does not have a current file structure. In a windows 9x up to ME environment you can only format to FAT32. All windows editions after that are NTFS.

What I think you have failed to see is that ktc13's drive is in RAW format, ie unformatted. His initial command was indeed correct apart from a space missing between the colon and the forward slash but that command will only work on a drive that has already been formatted to FAT32 not RAW.
