I have an HP Media Center PC, model m7434n, running Windows XP Media Center Edition.
I also have an Xbox 360, currently next to it.
I have the 360's Yellow, White, and Red Video/Audio cables connected into the appropriate "Input" locations on the front of my computer.
The problem is: I simply want my computer to play the signal from my Xbox on my Monitor.
Windows Media Center will detect the 360 as a "Set-Top Box", but its not, so it refuses the signal.
Is there some program i can install or some way through windows media center i can just get the signal to play on my monitor?
I am aware that there is a cable that will solve the problems, allowing my Xbox to connect to the Monitor directly, but that costs $40, and i don't have the ability to pay any money for anything, which is why i need an alternate solution. With a Media Center PC, I would expect it to be much easier done.

Have you read the instructions on connecting the Xbox to a PC here at this link?
The top two or three links are for Win XP media centre editions... Xbox.com | Xbox 360 Media Download Center

I've noticed an issue. That the only version of Windows Media Center Edition they mention is 2005.
According to my comp specs, i am running Media Center Edition, Service Pack Two, 2002 Edition. I can technically upgrade to Service Pack Three, but there are issues related to this model of computer running the type of Processor that i am when upgrading to SP3, and they are a risky hassle to deal with. Is there some program that will detect and display a video input signal? |

Is Update Rollup 2 the same thing as Service Pack 3?

As far as I'm aware no it's not, if you have the early version of Win XP media center you will probably need to update it with the Rollup 2 from the Microsoft link below.
Then follow the instructions to setup the Xbox from the Xbox link I posted earlier... Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
