Default CPU freaking out! HELP

Hello everybody, my first post here and I hope you guys can help.
Since few days my CPU is going crazy, fluctuating basically between 0-100% lagging, incredibly.
I uninstalled IE 8 and SP-3 from XP.I scanned for viruses-nothing...
It started a few weeks ago by IE loading slowly, then my VSTIs started to crash, WM player started tofreeze and now even when I scroll a page CPU shoots up, just writing this message sometimes the letters appear "after" a moment.
There is no overheating- MOBO-40C, CPU- 65C
PC is 1 year old- AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Main board Asus M3A78-EH
3 Go of memory
Any idea?
Any help greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU

Hello and welcome to PCHF

Quite often such issues are related to a failing HDD.

Check your HDD's S.M.A.R.T. records:
Download the free program SMARTUDM - HDD S.M.A.R.T. Viewer

Put the program on a boot floppy or a bootable USB stick and boot from it.

(HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool: Run the program, and select "Create a DOS startup disk, using DOS System Files Located at:" then point to a bootable floppy and copy the bootfiles from there)

After you boot your system from the floppy (or the USB), on the prompt type: smartudm
Select the HDD you want to see the S.M.A.R.T. records from, and keep pressing <ENTER> until the program asks you to press R to generate a report.
Generate the report and then do the same for the rest of the HDDs -if any.

In windows, open the report(s) with Notepad, save as .txt (makes viewing easier) and post them here.

Did all that, but never got pass the "Determining DMI/SMBIOS"...(in that program)
Got stuck there for ever, and had to restart PC twice.

Hello again -and sorry for the broken link..

My previous post should have been:

"Check your HDD's S.M.A.R.T. records:
Download the free program SMARTUDM - HDD S.M.A.R.T. Viewer
Scroll down at the bottom of the page.

Make a boot floppy, or a bootable USB stick, put the program on it and boot (pure DOS).

In windows, open the report(s) with Notepad, save as .txt (makes viewing easier) and post them here."

Now, smartudm does not need to do any ... "Determining DMI/SMBIOS"

You didn't download ASTRA didn't you? The S.M.A.R.T. viewer is at the bottom of the page (check the link on this new post, it works fine)

So you put it on a floppy and tried to boot from it?
It is a .zip file. you must extract it first.
  1. You make a boot floppy.
  2. You extract the contents of the .zip file to the floppy
  3. You boot your system from it
The floppy should look similar to the Attachement (I have a few more report on it, the first one is always smartudm.rpt, and from then on:smartu01.rpt, smartu02.rpt ...)
