Hi PeeJay,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs, as well as a very experieced and helpful user community. I feel certain that we will be able to help you.

First of all, can you describe the window that you clicked prior to this happening? Also, I want to verify that your folders are there, but you say every file is missing? Can you specify what folders? Is all data in your My Documents, or did it target specific folders?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi greenlady witch,

I have lost everything in My documents folder except for the generic stuff that comes on the computer. It still has my pictures, music folders there but nothing in them.

I think it's all there somewhere, as my laptop has only got a 40g harddrive and it's pretty full(about 36G). I know it was around this as recently i went on a few website to find out how to speed it up. I done a coulpe of things they suggested and it did speed it up and has been working well for three weeks or more.
Also when i do a search for files on the "C" drive i can see it looking in folders that these files have been in.

The window that came up on start up, mention something like " log in error - to solve this problem will have to go back to original profile"
There was only one option to click which was "OK" so i Click it(Wrong thing to do i guess)

I had no password on it(so not worng password) and never happened before or again.

Thanks for the reply & hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

PJ

Hi LadyGreen Witch,

Just found my files under- C: Document & Settings/PJ document.(Yeah!)

How do i now get thing back to normal

I could just move the whole folder into my document, but that won't put all my settings back, that took ages to get it the way you like it. As all my internet setting are gone, Itunes has no music etc.
Do i just have to be happy with finding them? or is there an easy way?

What do you think happened? can i stop it from happening again?

Guess i have to invest in that external harddrive I've been buying for ages!

Regards,

PJ

Hey PJ,

That's great news that you found your files. I am very much concerned about how they moved all by themselves out of their folders, and just landed in your user profile.

Can you please tell me what the box was that you clicked before this happened? If we don't figure out what caused this, you may find yourself going through it all over again, so before you start moving everything back in place, let's make sure that doesn't happen. OK?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi ladygreenwitch,

Thanks for you help so far.

The window appeared after i clicked on my profile. I can't remember exactly what the window read, But something like this- "log in error" & in the text box it said that "profile error will have to go to original profile". The text box had lot in it but thats the general jist.
The only box to click was "OK" so i clicked ok & the rest is history!

Now my computer is really so again, so should i set it back to the way i had it or was that a contributing factor

Regards,

PJ

Hey PJ, You are welcome.

Yes that would have been a contributing factor, but I am afraid without the information, it is difficult to know for sure.

If you like, to be on the safe side, we can ask the Security Team to take a look.

Otherwise, I think it would be in your best interest, to create a new profile, and move the items into that profile's My Documents folder, to make sure that you don't have the problem repeat itself.

Let me know which way you would like to go, and I will give you further instructions.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
