hi guys
friend of mine has a laptop which is uber slow, but she doesnt have the xp cd that came with it (if one did).
she would like to reformat EVERYTHING on it, but is this possible without the cd? and how?
also, there is a system partition on the C drive, could someone explain its purpose please?
i think i recall talking to someone on this forum about doing this with i386 or something, but i cant find the convo, so if someone could enlighten me as to how this is possible somehow, it would be greatly appreciated.

Lot's of ways to format, but you really do need a true version of Windows to re-install...

Many systems have a 'safe' partition... the things that were there from the factory... but there needs to be some sort of backup for it to read from to re-install.

Is at all possible to get hold of an OEM version?

We can easily proceed from there.

i have an oem cd, but its already installed on my pc, and i believe i cant use it more than once.

Yeah, you could phone Sony, Thats right about the OEM CD, you, by law can''t install it on any other PC.cop
So if Sony can't help there's 2 things yoju can do.
1. during boot up keep pressing F10, if that doesn't work, restart and try F11, if still not joy do the same with F12. Or
2. get a RETAIL copy of Windows
