I get this message when i boot up my XP computer.
This computer is relatively new but the OS isn't.
When i install the drivers for my motherboard and restart, i get this message, "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
i get that message on every OS after installing the drivers for my motherboard, usually i keep my xp disc in my external dvd drive and just bypass this message, but today, my external dvd drive is occupied....so i cant do that.
I have an internal CD drive for this computer but when i put the CD in and boot, it doesnt tell me "press any key to boot from CD" it just does it, so flush that idea
I've been on forums for a while and i have read things like, "boot from your xp and use the 2nd of 3 options (run startup repair) but it seems a bit faulty being that all i can do is hit enter which restarts my computer
i read somewhere else where i should do the first step which is install windows xp, hit f8 stating i agree with the T.O.S., then it should give me the option to repair my current install of xp...well IT DOESN'T, it just shows my partitions and asks me if i want to install Windows Xp on the selected partition, create new partition on selected space, or delete partition
frankly i would like to do none of the above, if someone can recomend something to me, it would be fantastic :P

Hello and welcome.
There could be a few reasons why this happens. Check there is no floppy or CD in the drives, make sure hard drive is set to first boot in BIOS or reset BIOS to defaults. Make sure your hard drive is reconised in BIOS. Run the hard drive manufacturers diagnostics tool. Run a repair if you can although if you are using a USB keyboard and mouse then you may need to enable USB support in BIOS for these or switch to a PS/2 keyboard and mouse untill you have done the setups and repair etc. Is your CD rom drive set to first boot device in BIOS when you are booting from CD? Possibly boot into recovery console with command prompt and run chkdsk to check the hard drive is functioning. Just a few ideas you may wish to check or try. Jelly Bean.
