Ive bought a 1TB hard drive with the idea of copying over my c: partition from my existing drive, i used Norton Partition Magic which copied the partition ok but when i just install the new hard drive it wont boot.
Is it possible to do what im attempting and if so where am i going wrong please?
Thanx
Paul

Hello Paul.
Have you gone from IDE HDD to SATA HDD? If SATA did you install the SATA driver? Have you tried restarting and repeatedly tapping F8 and choose last known good config? Have you tried a repair using the install disk? Does your BIOS reconise the new HDD? Do you have RAID enabled in BIOS by default? A little more information would help us to help you. Jelly Bean.

cdpaul,
Apologies for the delay. Did any of Jelly Bean's suggestions work? I will mark this as Open to encourage a reply

Hi
It looks like your boot sector is missing on your new hard drive. This can be easily repaired using the cd. Boot from the cd, get into the recovery console by pressing 'R' at the start screen and type: Code:
fixboot Code:
fixmbr

I tried again using Norton Ghost "Copy drive" option and it worked.
Thanks for all your help! |
