Default Windows Xp-64bit freezing on startup

Hi experts. First post over here and i come with a very (common) computer dissease the FREEZING AT STARTUP =(

Okay first of all my hardware
AMD Athlon X2 64 5000 @ 2.7ghz
ATI Radeon Hd2600 Pro (PCi-e)
4Gb Ram DDR2 800 Kingstone
Just the cheapest AMD2 socket Mobo i could find (i'll edit this when i get to my home)

The actual problem goes like this:

I can select wich OS i want, boot and start to desktop. I can also move for about 2-3 min before it freezes. When it freezes i still can highlight the <Start> Button with my mouse (wich also moves around), but if i press it it won't go up. I can also do Alt-tabs and switch from whatever programs i opened before de the freeze.

If i open the taskmanager before the freeze, i can actually see the resources / mem usage / and process name (fluctuating so it's not really frozen) but as soon as i try <End process>, it would also freeze the taskmanager

First i thought about malware / spyware problem.. and that was to seem the case as i found TNTSETP.exe as a startup item ...Twice. I tried a manual delete, but the file wasn't anywhere, so i just unchecked the box on msconfig.

I also tried doing a "Diagnostical Boot up" the one where every startup item is disabled, and only essential processes are running. And.... It didn't lock up at all.

I tried manually turning services on to see wich one was causing the failure, and after like 5 hours of my life wasted i came with nothing, 'cause running with less services often make the system stable for like 3-5 mins so i couldn't be sure if it was a service related or a time related issue.

I also tried the well known fan cleaning, but it didn't work. my temps are 30ºc /44ºc on iddle and under basic app working

I still can boot on Safe mode with networking, but can't do system restore tasks, 'cause it frezees at the last step (even on safe mode O_O)

What makes my problem kinda unique? Well for starters... I'm using two partitions: One to boot XP Professional and the other one to boot Xp-64
In good old x86 Xp the computer boots and works like charm (using the same hardware), so it couldn't be a temperature issue. Malware issue still stands as well as driver incompatibility.

I have 5gb free space on the Xp64 partition and 8gb on the Xp one

What triggered the problem? Well i was playing NFS most wanted (almost abandonware now xD) and suddenly i started to.. catching the horizon.. it was really weird the car started to speed up and it was like my GFX card wasn't able to keep up with the game, and then when i stepped on a Black section of the road (non rendered) i heard a loud CRACK coming from my HD ( i suppose) well obviously my Pc shutted Down after that.

I haven't run a Chkdsk (i just realized that) so i'll try that next and i already cleaned up the registry.

if someone see something i missed, please let me know.
Thanks in advance

Kronox

(I've read a lot of threads triying to found the solution so this is just the last resource before i format --> there goes my ego

I apologize if my english is too dull, but it's not my mother lang

Hello Kronox and Welcome to PC Help Forum. We have a friendly community here to help you.

Before this started freezing up, did you add any new hardware? Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks for your interest in my problem JM.
No. I haven't installed any new hardware at least for about 4 months. Neither peripherals or removable storage systems

Hi there and welcome to the site.

I am interested and will concentrate on this part of your initial post;

In msconfig, go to the services tab and put a check mark in the box "Hide all Microsoft Services" un-check all in there - click ok and re-boot. Do you have the same problem?

okay 2nd try it was stable for 5 min then it froze. i was looking at the taslmanager and iexplorer just reached 64,000 mem usage. i don't know if this is correct. I barely web-surfed less than 40 seconds

If this happened recently, try a System restore point to a time before the problem.

If you can't do that, do this: http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-x...1-sfc-exe.html

Java.exe *32 was causing the freeze. (is still causing it )
I just started taking snapshots while pressing forward and back with the taskmanager opened... and when it poped up... the system locked up

I'll go ahead and uninstall any java related programs and let you guys know
