I have a Gateway PC Model E4600 with Win 2000 Prof OS. i'm told that it just wouldn't boot up at all. when i tried it wouldn't boot even in to safe mode. i decided to install a different hard drive formatted and partitioned and reinstall Win 2000, the setup then went thru loading the set up files ( from 4 floppy disks) but then suddenly stopped on 4th disk at a blue screen with "Stop" errors like "Ox0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x804EA3AB, 0x000000O, Ox00090045)"
Address 804EA3AB base at 80400000 date stamp 385d5a76-ntoskrnl.exe....the information i could find on correcting these these errors are beyond me and seemingly due to many involved causes.. i checked that the memory modules were seated and that nothing was connected to the compute other than the monitor mouse and keyboard, after several attempts with
different hard drives and cables with same result i tried the Win 98 install disk and it loaded without a hitch. after restarting Win 98 several times i tried installing Win 2ooo in windows as an upgrade but got
the same "Stop" screen. some of the error numbers were slightly different but the line about ntoskrnl.exe was there.. this is a secondary computer with me and i could stay with Win98 but am puzzled by the fact it runs win 98 fine and fails with Win 2k. good Hard drive- Pent 4, 1800mhz 256mb RAM Gateway doesn't support this model since it sold the line to another
outfit whose web site has it's own problems and is no help.. i thought maybe a BIOS update might correct this....
Hope someone has an idea about a fix for this....
