Hi Dci,

Hope you had a good break?

Ok i had a go at what you suggested but the only thing on my "hardware" is device manager, Drivers, & hardware profile, none of these let me go to properties which means i cant get to policies (if you look at the link you'll get what im on about)

PS - I dont really have anyone that techy to help me on this

PPS - Are you trying to get rid of me!!!

Never!

Please double check that you followed the steps. I think I did the same thing as you my 1st time through. Don't right click the My Computer, but instead go into that and Right Click on the HDD (C Drive)

Quick scanning a doc always gets me in trouble

Hi DCi

I think that may have done the trick although in the last couple of days i have had a error message saying "Virtual Memory too low" which
A - i have no idea what that means &
B - Is this a coinsidence or connected to the other problem

all the best

Woo hoo! 1 down, 1 to go

The Virtual Memory too low shouldn't be related to the other issue. What VM is is that amount of HDD space allocated to the page file or HDD used to supplement the RAM.

You can allow the computer to dymanically manage the VM or take the systems recommendations. Both are in the same location. Right Click the My Computer icon -> Properties -> Advanced tab -> Performance block -> Settings -> Advanced tab -> Virtual Memory block -> Change ->

You have the choice here of using either System Managed or using the Custom Size which you would set according to the recommendations found in the lower 1/2 of that screen.

Hi Dci

ok i done the virtual memory suggestion & so on no problems there,
however ever since i did the fix messing around with th policies my external hardrive keeps disconnecting & the 5 seconds later reconnecting, about 6 months Amtech helped me out (i will post his recommendation) but as you will see what he said affects what yiu said, i hope you understand what im talking about

My advice is to, once it connects, right click the drive in My Computer and choose Properties > Hardware > Select the drive > Policies

And choose Optimize for Performance. (Or whichever isn't currently selected).

Also, if you are trying to connect this drive to a laptop (or even a desktop), it could be that the system doesn't have enough power to power the external drive. Since this has happened recently, it would only be the case if you recently added new hardware such as another external drive or other USB device.

Basically the opposite of the MS link post #168, huh?

Give it a try again. Let me know if the same error pops up

All we can do is try, right?

Besides, I would hate to lose my best customer already..... We work well together
