Hello everone. This is my first time (and post) in the forum.
I need some help with a query.
Here is the situation.
About two months ago our comp was infected with a virus from an e-mail from our security provider. The virus came uunder the Spyware Guard 2008 program and resulted us in completely wiping our hard drive. At that time my cousin took the oppurnity to not only help us wipe the drive, but also clean out the computer's componets since the system was old (first got it in 03'.)
We redirected the fans to increase the airflow, took out a part and fixed how the computer was utlizing the ram. After putting it back together and re-installing the systems, everthing was working fine. Two weeks after, whlie streaming some vids, an alarm began to sound from the computer. I checked with my cousin - he said there was nothing to worry about. The next day, the alarms stopped.
However, the alarms have started up again. I'm confused to what may be causing it exactly:
Is it a cooling problem?
Is it a problem with the virtural memory?
Or is it something else?
Please help. I will repond back with more detalis if possible.
**For refrence, the sound that comes on (as best as I can describe it) was a simple "dee-doo" alarm. It would go on for more than 5 minutes.

Hello malkits24 and Welcome to PC Help Forum. We have an excellent staff and community ready to help.
Was it a loud alarm, or was it a soft alarm? Looking forward to your reply! *JM* |

Its pretty loud. The computer is in the dining room of the house, and I can hear the alarm in the basement when it comes on.

The only alarm that I am aware of in XP is for battery warning. Is the computer connected to a UPS of any kind?
*edit* Did a quick google. Is the alarm noise coming from the pc itself or speakers attached to it? If the noise is internal then it is probable an overheating issue. Download speedfan http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php and post your temperatures. Last edited by TechnoHippy; 05-22-2009 at 04:18 PM. Reason: add more info |

Malkits this to me points to usaly a RAM issue, graphics card or your processor issue.
Ok lets see if we can get you to test a few things. Ok lets enter BIOS and load fails safe and defaults.Resart and on post screen it will say "Press ? to enter setup" this ? could be F1,F2,Del or another.Press the key enter BIOS and load defaults save and exit. Another thing to try is to power off remove from power outlet and open her up.Touch power supply for a few seconds to part the static. Now check processor fan is fully seated and then fully clean the internals. Make sure if you have a PCI card graphics that it may need resitting. Now power her on and check all fans are spinning. Does she now beep? If yes then lets check RAM. If you have more than one stick of RAM power off the computer remove from power outlet and remove all but one stick of RAM.Single sticks of RAM should be placed in slot nearest the processor. Now with one stick in there reboot does she beep? If yes then again as above remove the RAM stick and test another. Try this: http://www.pchelpforum.com/memory/58...nload-run.html And download this and post a screen shot of the temps while under load. SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer Let me know the results please. Jelly Bean.

Thanks everyone.
Hippy- the alarm is internal, I listen to my vids with headphones. even with the vol set at max, the alarm was louder than the the head phones. Bean- I'll see if my cousin can help me with checking the components. I don't know enough to safely move around componets if the need aries. I did save what you said so I can refrence it. |
