Hi
This is what I found:

"Aegis Protocol is an 802.1x "supplicant" -- it handles authentication for wired and wireless networks. It most commonly installs along with your wireless card's configuration software.

Aegis has been around for a while, yet SP2's version of 802.1x authentication is younger. You can use Aegis if you want, disable it by unchecking the box, or delete it by running the uninstall program. (Some vendors do not provide a separate uninstall, but if they do, it will be in Add/Remove programs).

Aegis is useful if you use WPA-PSK, WPA-Radius, Certificate-based authentication"
