On my XP-sp3 comuter it was workong just fine last night. This morning I logged on and everything seem to boot up normally until I clicked on IE to get on the internet, all I get is an error message:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\explorer.exe
not enough quota is available to process this command
So then I clicked on Mozilla:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe is not a valid Win32 application
OK,, so then I clicked on Start>Control Panel and everything is "tiles" so I clicked on View>Thumbnails
all I get is blannk square boxes with the title of each under them, so just for giggles I clicked on "mouse" (since I am left handed and my mouse had reverted back to the right handed usage) and I then get:
C;\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe
attempt to access invalid address
so for giggle again, I clicked on "Keyboard" and got this:
C:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe
The paging file is too small for this operation to complete
OK, then clcked on "Windows Firewall got this:
attempt to access invalid address
so I backed out of control panel and went to Start>Run and got
Windows cannot create a shortcut here.
Do you want this shortcut to be placed on the desk top instead?
Yes? or no?
at first I clicked on no and then did it again but this time clicked on yes, a short cut appeared on the desk top but when clicking on the shortcut, nothing happens. So I thought OK let me go and see if I can do the "Pre-work" thing that you folks ask for soetimes, well I was able to get as far as Set System and Hidden files and folders to show and from that point on I could not do any of the other steps and as far as trying to do anything else it was all with about the same results as listed with everything above.

HomeInspec,
Let me get this moved over to NEW HJT logs for you. This sounds like something that you need someone with more experience to give you a hand. I will leave this to the more *senior* staff to address. Best of luck. I know I am leaving you in good hands.

Hello Rich,
First we need to get this computer into a 'usable' state before we attempt disinfection. First, let's have you try the System Restore function. To get to it, start Help and Support and then search for "System Restore", the results will include several results of interest. You may also click on Start, then Run, and type in "c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe". Restore to a date prior to these problems. Otherwise, if that doesn't work, I need you to try booting to Safe Mode. To get into the Safe mode, restart your computer first. As the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key. Let me know if you still get those error messages in Safe Mode. Thanks, and I await your reply. |

OK had it in safe mode and seemed to work pretty good don'tl have the problem of staying on the desk top but when I brought it back to normal windows and everything seemed to work pretty good and then froze up and this happened many times in the past. When I try to red "X" something out it don't budge so I click ctrl, alt, del and then go through the thing where that pop up comes up and says program not responding, close program. Click on that and still nothing,, can do that about 5 - 8 times and it just keeps giving me that dang pop up finally I just rebooted and then freeze up right away in the past it has done that or do what it is doing now.
If you want you can show me how re-format as I don't have anything on here anymore that is important. Last edited by homeinspec; 04-20-2009 at 03:44 AM. |

XP came with my computer when I bought it so I don't have the XP CD or any recovery CD's. I didn't know about getting recovery CD's or what they were when I bought these two XP Computers. The did give me recovery CD's for my Vista Computer and it worked great when MadMonkey had me use it on the Vista.
Is there any place where I can buy the full version of XP as I heard microsoft isn't doing much to help anyone with XP as they want us to get Vista I suppose. Anyway I do appreciate your time and help. |
