There isn't anything wrong with my computer at the moment. I'm pretty sure I warded off a virus of some sort that is lingering but it wouldn't be the first time. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 with Windows XP.
I want to clear my computer of all the BS. I just want to strip it down to a few programs it started with and a 'documents' folder. I know this isn't necessarily as easy as restoring to a previous date. I have actually tried doing that a while ago when I had a virus and it didn't work anyways. The computer is old and runs hot. I had to get a new ac adapter and right now am bypassing my battery until I can afford a new one. I just need this computer to take it easy for a while so it doesn't die on my.
I have numerous convoluted programs lingering somewhere on my computer that I can't get rid of. I basically just have too much junk on here. I need help. I know this can be a long process but I'm pretty good at doing what is needed with guidance from you good people here at PCHF. Please let me know if this is doable and what my first steps can be. I have all important docs backed up on an external hd. I do not have a Microsoft Office install CD so I cannot afford to lose that. Other than that there isn't much that matters to me and yet there is a ton of junk on here.
Thanks in advance.
Meagan

It sounds like you will have to in and search out the programs you don't want and uninstall them..Then use or if you don't have it ,you can google this program....Ccleaner, and then use this on a regular basics. I would suggest that you make a back up on those files that you have no CD for......
