Hi there,
I showed up to work today, and when I fired up the shop computer it asked for a password. The problem is, we have never set up passwords for the three accounts on the computer. After I restarted it, I doesn't ask for a password anymore, but as soon as it shows the backround of my desktop, it logs me out.
any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Welcome Ipl4yforkeeps!
It sounds as though you might have been hit with malware or a virus. Since you aren't able to remain in Normal mode, I'll provide some tools to download in Safe Mode with Network and use for scanning your system in Safe Mode (no Networking). The Safe Mode option is accessed by rebooting the computer and pressing F8 almost immediately. The Boot selection menu will appear. If the Windows logo comes up, you've missed it - try again ![]() The difference between Safe Mode with Networking & Safe Mode (no Networking) is With Networking gives you access to the Internet, but does NOT provide any Firewall protection. Safe Mode runs only the most basic of Windows processes in order to accomplish a task. Please use Safe Mode with Networking to Download and then Reboot into just Safe Mode for scanning. You could also use a "thumb" or flash drive to download the tools and transfer them to the problem system for installation. Please review the PreWork document found in my Signature line, follow the steps as outlined, and post the requested logs back into this thread for review.

So i got to the boot selection menu. I entered safe mode and when the login page came up, the same thing happened. I clicked on administrator, it acted as though it was going to load it, then it signed off. When this happens, nothing (icons, start menu, time, ect.) is showing, just the backround.

Apologies for not getting back with you. Work got a bit busy and now I'm about to leave for the night.
Let me return you to the Windows XP forum so others can assist you in getting your OS repaired. Once you have access to the system, I believe that a PreWork review is still in order.

Ipl4yforkeeps,
Apologies that this didn't get picked up in my absence. I believe that I would like you to perform a REPAIR on your OS. Do you have your original CD handy? See this Microsoft KB for instruction Perform a Repair Installation
