Default All sorts of problems - all of a sudden!

Hi all!

OK, I'll try to keep this short.

Yesterday, I was surfing the net and all of a sudden the PC just rebooted itself. No warnings...nothing. Upon startup, I tried to get back on the net and nothing. I couldnt get chrome or explorer to connect. I checked my other PC's in the house and they worked just fine so I knew the modem and router were ok. So, I immediately began looking into the network interface. When i went to the DM to uninstall and reinstall my driver for the onboard 3com, it would just freeze as soon as I confirmed the uninstall. I've rebooted and tried this several times. After the 3rd time, the mobo started this continuous beep like it was screaming at me. I pulled the video card and ram and blew out the case of all dust and re-installed everything. I decided to manually delete the drivers by going to the system32 and system 32/drivers folder and delete the respective files (EL2K_XP.sys & EL2K_CPP.dll). I then was able to go to the DM and delete the network adapter (NA) (3com Gigabit LOM). I rebooted and went back to the DM and performed a search for hardware changes and it found the NA and I pointed it in the direction of the new drivers. After install, the internet worked for about a minute and then crashed again. I went through the same process twice to no avail. I can get it to work for roughly 40-60 seconds and then its done.

Not to mention that while doing this windows has decided that I need to re-verify my genuine copy of windows because of some apparent (major hardware change). What a pain.

So, at this point I was thinking I need to do XP reinstall and start over fresh. Before I started this I wanted to get in a bit of COD4 single player and after playing for about 5 minutes, the game just froze. This has never happened before. I decided to try another game,so I ran NR2003 and after about 5 minutes of racing, it froze as well and the mobo started the continuous beep again.

Guys I am stumped. What the heck could have caused a sudden reboot of the system, Network interface crash, and games crash all of a sudden? I'm leaning towards a bad mobo. I'm going to do a re-install to see if that clears things up.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum N0mad!

Do you have any programs installed to monitor your systems temps?

A shut down like that could very well be an overheat.. I hope not but your additional descriptions are pointing that way to me.

If you don't have something monitoring your temps, please try the Speedfan link from my signature and post a screenshot of what those temps are, (or at least type them) provided you can get it stay on long enough, of course.

Bad mobo maybe, but bad PSU could do the same thing. Happened to me.

I'll mark this open to encourage others to come and take a look.

Thanks for your patience

Hi NOmad - Welcome to PCHF!!!!

Do you know what version your BIOS is? If not can you please check it.

Generally one long continuous beep means a memory error. Try reseating your ram or run memtest to check your ram. Please see link below for how to check your memory with memtest.
