Default hibernating problem(desktop)

ok now after using hibernating successfully on the laptop i thought to adopt hibernation on my desktop
the problem occurred after a couple of restores after hibernating
the computer just stops responding, the keyboard hangs, the mouse keeps working the task bar turns completely black only a couple of icons appear that also do not respond
its an 8 year old computer(i know lol)but still it has around 9gb free in system drive and around 8 gb in the other drive after recent encounters of spyware the computer was running clean
any suggestions on this note
thanx before hand

You may wish to open command prompt and type in sfc /scannow pop in the XP install disk and hit enter on your keyboard.
