Default NVIDIA boot agent?

Hi PCHF, my first thread, and the reason I joined here, to get this fixed! Haha.

I have a Time computer here (I don't know which atm, sorry) and I keep getting the following error message on startup:

Verifying DMI pool data .......

NVIDIA Boot Agent, PXE-2.0 (build 082 V1.82)
Copyright (C) 2001 NVIDIA Corporation
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Thankfully I have this Dell laptop on hand to use this forum

(just to check, is the system disk the windows CD?)

Help with this problem would be much appreciated
I want to get this working ASAP, it's doing my head in lol

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the site.

Looks like the PC is trying to boot from the network. Go into the BIOS (press F1, Del or F2 when you switch the PC on) and turn off PXE boot, or "boot from network" or similar, in the network card settings menu.

OR change the boot order so that the newtwork card is the LAST boot device.

Many thanks for the fast reply :3

I'm currently in BIOS, but can't find anything to do with PXE or boot from network :/ Sorry :|

Any ideas where it might me? I've tried looking through all the menus and sub menus.

All these problems arose after I took out my brothers DVDRW drive and replaced it with a CDROM drive if that helps at all.

Thanks

Probably the quickest thing to do here is to reset the BIOS...

Pull out the power cable from the back of the PC, open the PC and remove the BIOS battery from the motherboard (carefully). Leave both out for a couple of minutes and then replace them, battery first. Boot and test...
