Default PC keeps crashing on full screen apps

My PC has started crashing whilst playing full screen apps (mainly demanding games) The screen freezes turns sort of checkered with distorted colours, I have no choice but to reboot. Its getting stupid now, keeps happening after about 3 mins of playing.
I have virus scanned and found nothing, tried system restore and again no change, i thought it might be due to my harddrive being almost full (partition 1 = 105 gig cap 24.7 gig free partition 2 = 127 cap 10.9 free) but that was from deleting a vast amount of unused programs and still no change.
I have also update to the latest graphics card drives still no change.
I'm out of ideas really, i don't think it's my hardware because it has been working fine for the past year or so but here is my rig anyway:

Windows xp prof
service pack 3
250 hdd
4 gig ram
inter core 2 duo @2.2
nvidia 8600 GT
p965 Neo mobo

just in case here is a hijack this log:

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have removed your video as it contains language that is inappropriate for our audience.

I think it would be interesting to see what your GPU temps are following a gaming session. Download and run this: GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility
