Unhappy No Sound Card problems

Hello all,
I am having trouble with my emachines t5026.
I am not able to access any programs that use sound. When I check my sound setting under control panel I get a message that says "No Audio Device", and everything is greyed out. If I select the "Sound Effects Manager" icon in control panel it opens up and the Realtek panel opens up and everything there works fine. I can do the sound effects test and everything works. I have downloaded and reinstalled the drivers and that makes no difference. Under "Sound and Audio Devices" in control panel if I click on hardware tab, is says that the device is installed and working properly.

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

hi mate try right clicking the speaker icon near the clock on the taskbar and select playback devices then make sure your device is set as the default sound application ,,, if that fails go in to device manager and see if there are any yellow triangles on your sound drivers if there is right click it and select one of these 2 options , if the sound worked before an upgrade or a recent programe or update try rolling back the driver , if that fails try dating the driver from the same page and let it scan windows update site

Unhappy Re: No Sound Card problems

Thanks for getting back to me.
I don't have a speaker icon in my taskbar. That is part of the problem. In the device manager everything says that the device is installed and working properly.
One other thing I tried is that I had a computer repair guy try to fix this, and he installed a new sound card, loaded the driver and we still had the same problem. We even tried yet another new sound card, with the same results.
He is stumped and so am I. All of this started with the sound your computer makes when you do something wrong. My computer was playing that sound every 30 seconds. I would leave my speakers off to avoid going crazy.
The computer repair guy finally came by and "Killed It" - his words.
After that the computer would power up but not do anything else, so I call him back again, and he reinstalled the OS.
That is the point where I realized we have no sound , yet the device manager says the sound card is there, and working properly.
I think there is some switch somewhere that is not allowing it to be usid?
I don't know.
Thanks

also try right clicking on an empty part of the taskbar and select properties click on the "notification area" and see if there is a tick in the sound icon in there if not tick it that should place the sound icon back on your taskbar
