Default Massive start up slow down

Hi,

Can anyone help me!!! A couple of days ago I started having problems with my pc on start up. It had slowed down massively. It would take up to ten minutes on some occasions. I thought it might have been down to start up programs but wasnt. I then thought it might of been a registry problem but I couldnt find anything there. So I nuked my hard drive and started again with a fresh copy of XP. Loading the new XP took nearly two hours and I still have the same problem. After start up theres no problems at all, everything runs fine. Could it be that my ram or cpu is damaged.

I know of several machines that have had this problem after installing SP3 and it's been resolved by uninstalling it.

Sorry if i'm stating the obvious and it's something you've already considered!
