I have an HP A1130N Pavillion, and every time I do a Windows Update (an older one, not sure which), it messes everything up, and I cannot even start Windows. I have to do a system restore if an update accidentally gets installed. This keeps me from downloading almost every new version of programs like WMP and Windows Live messenger. What the heck could the problem be?

Hi what O/S are you running have you tired to download and install the full service pack instead of individual updates

Oh sorry I use XP and no I haven't, I will try that. Does it cost money? Anything else?

no its completely free, just go to the microsoft site and download it, try service pack 3, go to ie->tools-> microsoft update, if does not work post back

Sorry, it took me awhile to locate a monitor for the other computer because the one it had broke.

Anyway, I downloaded XP service pack 3 and it didn't work. I mean, it downloaded, but it still messed the computer up.
