My Aunt has a new computer.

She has attached her old printer ( HP Deskject 720c ) to the new computer using a parallel port to usb cable

The computer tells her that the printer is there - but they do not seem to be talking to each other. Any suggestions?

I have checked that the drivers are there - though in device manager the printer is not showing - is it supposed to?

New information

If something is sent to the printer - the item pops into the printer queue and also a printer icon flashes up.

However quite quickly the icon and the doc i printer queue disappears....thus the computer thinks it has done its bit by sending to the printer ---but the printer does not even respond or acknowledge that something has been sent. eg alignment sets were sent to printer - but nothing happened.

I am aware this is almost a double post (it is also in the printer section) But i don;t imagine many people read posts in there - also i think it is more of a xp compatability issue as the computer is very new and the printer is not.
