Hi
I have an Acer Veriton PC which uses Windows XP and has been working fine until yesterday now when it starts up it gets to the desktop then an error message flashes up about function cannot be performed with a user mapped file open or something similar, then it just switches off without closing down then restarts again and does this until you switch it off at the wall.
I managed to start it in safe mode and done AVG antivirus check and Adaware antivirus and both deleted stuff but it still won't work in normal mode. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. If i have to reinstall XP is there any way I can save a folder first?
Thanks

give this a shot boot in safe mode and do a system restore to a few days before the problem happened how to below.
