I have a sony vaio VGN-C140G laptop. at first the problem was that I couldn't long in to my windows account... it would accept password then act like windows would start then just go back to the screen and ask for password again... even in safe mode. so I deleted everything on the hd and was gonna just do clean install. I cannot get any OS to install on this thing... not xp.. not media center edition which I think it has to have... or vista. I can't get any of them to work. each time I repartition drive... install windows xp just like normal.. it reboots and then gets to the part where u have to enter info and it starts at that blue screen with 39 minutes remaining.. neway it stops there and it says line 4 error with some .dll.. device ran out of tape. I can't get the installl to get past that point. I've searched and no one seems to know what to do. I know the xp install disc is ok cause I've used it on other pc's. and I ran memtest to check the laptops memory and it was fine. why is this laptop gettin this error and preventing windows from installing?

lol yes.. I've tried xp, media center edition, and vista. xp and MCE gets the errors about no more data on tape and that line 4 error. and vista just stops at 0% when it starts expanding the install files.

Hey Jeff I would delete the partition during install and recreate a new one then try a fresh install.
Also load fail safe and defaults in BIOS set first boot device to CD/DVD rom then popin the install disk, save and exit. The full error code and DLL would of helped to figure this one out. http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-t...tep-guide.html

I've tried deleting the partition then rebooting and formatting then installing... then I've tried deleting partition, then formatting, then rebooting then install... the exact errors I'm getting are these...
upon blue screen where it says 39 minutes remaining it gets to the 4'th dot where its about to install windows... at that point in windows xp install I get these errors in order they pop up... fatal error window: one of components windows needs to setup cannot be installed. incorrect function. then the next window reads: error: SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\1386\asms\10\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS. MAN" on line 4. **** Error: Installation Failed: D:\1386\asms. Error message : Incorrect function **** Fatal Error: One of the components that Windows needs to ocntinue setup could not be installed. Incorrect function. I then click close and then the laptop reboots and the same thing happens again. |

let me see... I've also tried installing it then repairing it and that doesn't work. I tried that b4 and it just froze on the blue screen when it was supposed to boot the windows install.... its really wierd. its like something is blocking anything from being installed on this laptop.
