Hi guys
I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 Laptop from 2005 and am having problems at startup.
When i try and startup it says:
We apologise for the inconvenience but windows did not start succesfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
It asks me to either startup in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last known good config, or Start Windows Normally.
When i choose last known good config or start normally, a blue screen appears and it loops back to this message. if i choose the others, it starts a huge list of paths:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)windows\system3 2\drivers etc
i dont have any CDs for the laptop and am unsure what to do. could someone advise? i dont care if i lose everything on the laptop as i recently backed up.
thanks for your help in advance.

Hello and welcome back to PCHelpForum.
You need to borrow an install CD from a friend or family member it must be the exact same opertaing system as already installed on your system. It must be an OEM install disk, this means an install disk that came supplied with a new computer purchase. Or it is purchase an install disk with its own key which is called a retail disk. Or when you start the computer do you get an option to boot into recovery console? If you can borrow a disk then reinstall Windows. JB.

It appears you may have to delete the partition and create a new one.
Or your hard drive letter is wrong as it should be C: Or your CD/DVD drive needs a clean or the XP CD is corrupt. You would have to buy an external hard drive enclosure for your laptop hard drive a 2.5 one. Remove the hard drive from the laptop and put it into the enclosure then connect to another PC via USB and remove all your data. Then replace into laptop and delete partition and create a new one and install windows.

Well, i thought insted of starting a new thread i'd add my problem to this one. My friend has a Dell Inspiron 1000, yes a little old, and a problem just popped up a week ago. We were watching a dvd on it and decided to shut her down afterwards. the next day it won't boot, The Dell logo sceen with the f2 and f12 options pop up as normal but the right after that it won't boot, the backlight stays on but nothing else. I go into set-up and have the comp run a diagnostic check on itself. While its doing that, i hear a long beep sound untill the check is finished. My brother tells me it could be the os itself or a hardware problem, but he is not sure since he's halfway across the country and can't mess with it himself. Anywho, I get a couple of codes and am not sure what it means: Pxe-e51 and Pxe-MOF. Anyone experience or know what is could mean? Thanks in advance!

Hello Retrocirles,
Do you still need any assistance with your problem or have you managed to sort it out? Any update on your status would be great. Thanks! Smokeycheech
