Exclamation Programs crashing like 5 o'clock traffic !!!!

I hope I do this right. First, the problem is, that I have noticed programs crash now in the past few days. Two of them that really give me worries is Trend Micro Antivirus and Spysweeper.

Trend Micro will not run a scan when I prompt it to do so. It just freezes. I don't get the 'not responding' error, it just freezes. So I close it.

Spysweeper, just today when I did a reboot, I received an error message which mad spysweeper shutdown, and I couldn't reopen it.

I ran Malwarebytes and not one thing came up.

I ran hijack this and heres the results.....

hijackthis.log

I opened in safe mode and ran trend micro and it did a scan in command prompt, and it found several errors. It always listed it as 'error-94' .

I wish I could post a pic of that, but the window closes immediately after it finishes and brings up a txt. log which only shows virus info, not the files that had errors on them.

On a side note, I just finished doing a full wipe and reinstall due to the previous problems I was having with windows. Now it seems like it's starting all over again.

I have no idea why it's doing this. I don't use p2p programs, and I try to stay away from as many questionable websites as I can.

Sounds to me as you have a conflict going on there of some sort.

Can you by chance associate the start of your problems with installation of any particular software such as Trend Micro?

One thing we could try is first download CCleaner

Now download AntiVir PE

Install CCleaner then uninstall Trend Micro and run CCleaner after the uninstall is finished.

Click on Registry scan in CCleaner and allow it to fix whatever problems it finds.

Now install AntiVir PE and see if you still have the issue.

During this process don't run or use Spysweeper.

Ok I have done all that. Now I will just monitor the system and run several programs and try different things to see if the crashes still happen.

However, another question is, should I count on this antivir program as my primary antivirus program, or would my 'paid' trend micro full version be better, and should I reinstall it?

My main objective was to see if your anti virus was the culprit first of all.

If it is then I certainly wouldn't reinstall it.

As for AntiVir PE I've been using that as the primary protection on a couple dozen computers for several years without a problem and the best part is it's free so you don't have to purchase a subscription.

It's also very configurable and utilizes a real time scanner that monitors email and such.

If you take your time to check all the settings (I'd use "expert" mode) it even gives you a scheduler for full scans.

Different strokes for different folks but I prefer to run that once a week during the night.

I also set the virus detection to attempt repairs as the first option and if it can't then it deletes the offending item.

Another benefit is that the program doesn't have as large of a footprint as rivals like Norton and others that drag your system down in order to run.

Let's see if you still have issues then we'll go from there.
