Just did a fresh install of XP Home on my mother's laptop today using the manufacturers (toshiba) recovery CD.
She uses mobile broadband (Network 3 here in the UK) but since the reformat we get the following error message quite often which causes the internet to disconnect, we cant then get on the internet again until we restart the computer.
The error message is something along the lines of: "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Any ideas how I can fix this as I have to leave in a few hours and cant just leave her laptop's internet crashing every 20 minutes LOL
thanks!

Trying the quick fixes...................
Go: Start - Run - (type) sfc /scannow (with the space)(Enter) sfc = System File Checker restores files to their correct state. This may require you to put in your XP CD. then also Go: Start - Run - (type) chkdsk /r (with the space)(Enter) which will then say it can't perform the action until it reboots, take the Yes option. This checks your file system structures Reboot Report back....

hey thanks for the reply.
sfc /scannow went through the checker then disappeared after the progress bar had reached the end....that's good right? Chkdisk /r said everything was fine, no errors came up and all stages checked everything fine. |

Hello there.
Is this possibly when the laptop is trying to download updates? If yes then follow this link: Error messages when you start a Windows XP-based computer and then try to download Windows Updates Or does that error code have any numbers to go with it? JB.

Pootsey a driver update may also help:
Toshiba - Laptop Driver Downloads: Fill in the drop down boxes and it should pull up the drivers in a list.As you reinstalled windows you will proberly need a few downloads.
