Default CD-ROM - Recovery Discs

Im new to this stuff!! and your forum.
I know nothing YET about computers.

I have a computer that the kids and myself have try everthing that you shouldn't try, including different start up disc, an other peoples rebootdisc, so it hasn't been running for sometime now, I bought my daughter a new computer, so this one Im speaking of is just sitting their, Im wanting to get this one up and running again. I DON'T have reboot dics or the startup disc for this computer, its about 3.5 years old an in good shape.. I got with HP and they told me I can purchase what I need:

quantity: shipping method: price (USD):
1 US Mail (5-7 working days) $29.91

xp home sp2 52nahered3/4 supp 1 recovery kit

Compaq Presario SR1403WM Desktop PC

CD-ROM - Recovery Discs
================================================== ==========

Ok, my question is,

I have a HP Pavilion Media Center m7463w Desktop PC , I believe it has the capabiltys, if not I could get hardware for it, Im wanting to learn..

#1.Can I make a startup disc on this computer to use on the one Im wanting to get working?, With the propper files and image for the disc..

#2. Is someone willing to respond enough in this thread to see me finish this threw?(if it can be done.)

#3. Can it be done for free?

I know it would most likely be easier for me to just buy the darn disc at $29.91 , but then I didn't learn how to make a start up disc
If It can be done, Im a newbee in your forum and computers, so it will need to be explained 100% in my thread, but I won't give up.

P.S. I have tons of picture on it but just aint worried about it anymore..

You can borrow an OEM disk from a friend or family and use that.It will then take your origonal COA key.

Bootdisk.Com

I have marked your thread as "Open" to receive further help with this.

I have issues with my Sky internet and am unable to pull up my help files but dont worry another Tech is sure to help.

Thanks,

You can borrow an OEM disk from a friend or family and use that, is this OEM a copy of the original, I goggled OEM an read some and still reading, sofar the my main concerened was:"you may not be able to update your software after useing this method"

This "OEM Disc" is it the friends or family startup disc?,

does it have to be the same model and make of computer to be successfull?

when using it would I put my original product key in so it would work?
with my computer being a "Compaq Presario SR1403WM Desktop PC",
what ones can I use, that will work for me, OEM'S?
Im guess the "COA key" is my product key ?

I have OEM XP Home and Pro disks with SP2 on them.

I use them on other peoples computers to reinstall windows and have had no issues with COA key or activation or updates.

A XP CD comes with usaly basic drivers to allow a computer to boot up.

Once you reinstall windows you will need to update your drivers.

Ask a family member or a friend do they have the XP install disk that was supplied with there computer when purchased new.

All it has to be is XP Home CD to XP Home COA key.

Or XP Pro CD to XP Pro COA key.

OK, well I will try to find someone with a org. start up disc to "windoxs XP"< myself I don't have one, My other computer "HP Pavilion Media Center m7463w Desktop PC" it didn't come with, it's built in, an I need to go ahead an make my reboot disc for it but that will be easy, an my other computer is old it came with a window 98, to old to work I believe, or Im doing something wrong, if I can get it up I will return to this thread an asked you how to go about updating my drivers, an I will PM you if I get disk, thanks for your return to my topic.

I'd shure like to learn how to burn a "start-up dics" to work on this computer, using another computer to burn it. I see stuff when I goggle but lost to the tec talk.
