Hi nehorner01,

Do you have a SATA hard drive? You may need to install drivers for this drive before the Windows XP installation procedure "see's" it. Tell us your motherboard & HDD make and model number.

Hi, cheers for getting back to me, I'm trying to re-install it from a CD on a laptop, not really sure about all the technical details of it apart from what i can see on the BIOS menu. Which is...

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 1.83GHz
IDEO Model Name: WDC WD1600BEVS-22RSTO-S1
Atapi Modal Name: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N-(PM)
Product Name: Aspire 2920

Anything else you need to know that I can find with very reduced functionality then let me know.

Thanks alot guys
Neal

Hey nehorner,

Download this tool to give us that info:

RSIT
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Default Re: Cannot re-install Windows XP!

Ohh. my fault.

Looking up your model number I have come up with the following. You are using the OEM HD, correct?

If so, this is it:

Hitachi SATA hard disc HTS542516K9SA00

Since it is SATA you will need the drivers found here:

Have a look at this link which is a guide on how to install these drivers:
