Default XP L2 Cache Tweak in Registry Question

Thes quote below is the tweak from the sticky thread in this section. The question below is what someone asked (and the question I have also) and there was no answer. So I was wondering if someone can answer the question below? Also I have a T2050 processor in a dell computer which has 2 x 1MB L2 cache. So should I set it to 1024 (1MB for each processor) or 2048 (2MB total for both processors) and in Hexidecimal or Decimal?

Thanks!

I
already have aDWORD under this branch called 'SecondLevelDataCache' but the value is Hex 0 should the new value be 512 hex or 512 dec ??? What would happen if the wrong Base was used??

"Windows XP is optimized for processors having 256KB of Level2 cache. However, many of today's processors have more than this. Find out how much Level2 cache your processor has and carry out the following tweak.

-Navigate to the registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management.

-Create a new DWORD under this branch called 'SecondLevelDataCache' and assign it a value corresponding to the amount of your processor's Level2 cache (for example, 512 or 1024 in the case of 512KB or 1MB respectively.)

-Restart Windows and you will should see a further increase in performance of your system! Goodluck "

Personally I wouldn't use this in XP. Windows XP will automatically detect the L2 cache on your processor. By all means tell XP that you have a dual core CPU by doing this;

Start > Run > type msconfig and press enter > go to the BOOT.INI tab and click Advance Options... > check mark /NUMPROC= and change the setting to (in your case) 2. Exit, save and re-boot.

Ok, I'll do that. I changed the SecondLevelDataCache back to 0 which is it was originally and changed the BOOT.INI setting instead.

Thanks for the help!
