Solved: Auto Shut Down / spurious file ?

Medion 8386 Win XP I think auto updates have installed SP 2 so far ?

PC has intermittantly shut down for last 2 weeks and about 3 times blue screen told me shut down to protect computer.So fed up I rebooted back to factory settings.
Now starts up and before welcome screen,message,: Disc check required. Volume serial no 0875-E7E3. ( Specific disc appears non windows XP disc.)
The only way I have been able to use the PC without instant shut down when I select browser is to clear start menu through msconfig.
Now runs OK with file warning en route and Key Lock comes up on most screens.Also takes a lot longer to move from windows starting up to welcome screen etc.

Please post your system specs at...
Click on User CP
Slide down to Edit Options
then slide down to System Specs.
Also, set the option pulldown to YES.

You can click on the Belarc link in my signature.
Download/run the scan (it's FREE).
It will give you the specs on your computer.

This will help us help you.

Pleaseforgive me for Copy Paste,but I did not understand the User Cp and edit bit. Hope this does not create problems. I notice the monitor also stays on when the pc is switched off.

Thanks for your help,working on it for the last hour ! What I can not understand is where the non XP disc has come from ,I have booted back to factory settings about three times since I bought the PC and never had a problem, Then installing updates as they came up. Let you know when i'm up to date !
