Default No sound!

Hi there i recently had a problem, with my laptop windows xp/realtek soundcard.

i cant hear any sound from my speakers i go to device manger and all my drivers are installed and recognized.

when i go to control panel>sounds> sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. mine is set to windows default.

i have tried to uninstall but it says i cannot uninstall because it is part of the system start up :S

I would recommend upgrading to SP3. The reason why I am recommending this is because SP3 includes the most recent updated drivers for Realtek Audio/HD Audio devices. Most likely this will fix your problem. You probably just have outdated drivers for it. SP3 takes at least 10-15 minutes to install, so it will take some time. When you reboot, it will say found new HD Audio hardware, and it will be your Realtek Audio Device.

If you look in sound and audio devices , then on the audio tab do you see the drop down lists? The top 2 should say Realtek audio under default device . You might be able to change it to realtek (iv'e done it before) If your drivers aint working properly then it wont give you no option to change that. And then you would need to completly remove sound driver and reboot and reinstall the correct one.
