I don't play with my computer settings and I rarely download anything.
However today I see my wallpaper on the desktop has disappeared (the background now is white), the shortcut icons I had "locked" have moved, and there is a box mixed in with this mess (it's transparent) but I can read the top of it. It says "restore my active desktop", but that's all I can see of it, no button to push or anything.
I restarted my pc to see if that would fix it but it didn't.
Edited: I forgot to say I have IE7 and Windows XP on a HP pc.
What happened and can I fix this?
Thanks so much.
GrannyK

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.
Try a right click on thedesktop and choose properties try changing the wallpaper. If this was due to installing IE7 then try this:After I install Windows Internet Explorer 7 on a computer that is running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, a "Restore My Active Desktop" button appears on the desktop Marked as "Open" to receive further help from our Tech Team and helpfull members. I think take the "Restore Active Desktop" option which is a key click on the screen on the words - see if that works.
If it does, all well and good, but if it happens again report back. If no, can you do a System Restore to a few days ago?

Jelly Bean---
I just got home from work and saw your post about changing my wallpaper. That worked! Thank you so much, but what can I do to prevent it happening again? Is there some setting I should change somewhere? Thanks again-- GrannyK |

Hello GrannyK.
I dont think there is realy anything you can do.It is just a glitch proberly due to a Microsoft update. Although if you have the install CD for the operating system you could open command prompt and type in sfc /scannow and popin the disk and see if that helps. I am glad it worked and now you know how to fix it. ![]() JB.
