Default Autocomplete Problem

Not sure if it's actually called 'autocomplete'?

I am referring to when I attempt to enter a username into my web page logon for my router. (D-Link) The log on name is always "admin" and this still works fine.

The problem is an embarrassing one! At some point in time my eldest son, whilst fooling around with mates, attempted to use all sorts of rude login names on some site or other (not sure which) Now, whenever I click on the username field to type in "admin" a list of rude names pops up for me to select if I wished to! Not a problem if no one is looking over my shoulder!

Any ideas where I can find this rogue data, then delete it?

Which browser are you using? I think before you could double click a blank box and the list of used names would pop up. If you press Delete you can delete them one at a time.

You may also want to try deleting your cookies in the browser you are using. That would work too I think.

click on tools at the top of your browser then click internet options, then you should find what you are looking for there. Try the privacy tab or the security tab in options . That should be the same on firefox and I.E. hope that helps!

If you go in to Tools>Internet Options in IE or Tools>Options in Firefox you will see options to delete the cookies/private data.

Under the Cookies tab in Firefox you can clear your Private Data and under the Options in IE you can clear your Cookies. This will get rid of the drop down box. Additionally, you will find options you can configure to delete these types of data when you close the browser if you are so inclined

Question Re: Autocomplete Problem

Thanks Jelly Bean....

Amtech... Re:
"Which browser are you using?"
I am using IE7

"I think before you could double click a blank box and the list of used names would pop up. If you press Delete you can delete them one at a time"
Yes, I have seen this feature work successfully at other times, but it does not work here?"

"You may also want to try deleting your cookies in the browser you are using. That would work too I think"
Tried this too, but did not do anything for me? In fact, I deleted all internet data options in IE7... (Temp, cookies, history, form data & passwords) Thanks anyway Amtech, any other ideas?

Snoopy... Re:

See note above.

"Try the privacy tab or the security tab in options . That should be the same on firefox and I.E. hope that helps!"
Thanks Snoopy, but couldn't see anything to help in there? I have Reset all settings to "Default" on those 2 tabs, but no improvement.

Thanks Crush, but I think I covered all that in my answers above, let me know if you think I missed something.

Also, under the CONTENT tab of IE7 Options there's the 'autocomplete' configuration which I have now cleared/unticked all.

Any more ideas anyone?

By the way, I also purchased a piece of software called 'Evidence Eliminator' (have you heared of that?) Ran this a couple of times but the problem still persists!?

PS: Does anyone know of a 'technical method' of tracking the whereabouts of this data? Tried Windows search but no joy!

the data is usually located in C\Windows\Temp or C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files or C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\Local Settings\ContentIE5
