desktop background disappears when i disable icons

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.
Does this happen with all backgrounds or just this one? Could you open command prompt and type in sfc /scannow and pop in XP CD and hit enter on your keyboard. Marked as "Open" ready to receive further help from our Tech Team and helpfull members. JB.
