Solved: forgot the password of windows (laptop)

Hi !
a friend of mine has a laptop with two or three users, each one with a password. recently, he has been trying to log into windows with typing his own password, but he can't have access to windows. Now, he has some important files in the drive in which the windows is installed.
I've once heard of two files with specific extension that one can save in a floppy disk to reset the password.
Please, I need your help to get rid of the password.

The only way for you to save the pass onto a floppy is to log in as the user and make one, What version of windows are you currently running? Have you tried booting into save mode and logging in as admin, typically people don't set up there admin password so you can log in as admin and remove the passwords from there, depending on what version of windows you are running, hope this help.

he's using Windows xp pack 2. I will try to log in safe mode as admin and tell you the results.
