Hello all. I posted here back in September (on this thread) about Picture It crashing my computer. Something I did in the process apparently worked, as Picture It hasn't been a problem since. I didn't have to remove and reinstall, thankfully.
However for a couple weeks the exact same crash is happening again, this time with Windows Media Center now. When I minimize the Media Center window, the system crashes - the display goes completely black and I have to manually reboot the computer.
So far I've done the following: run AdAware, AntiVir, made sure my firewall was updated, run CCleaner, and gone to the MS webpage to run updates. Nothing has helped. Everything I've found online about this problem is for Vista but I'm still on XP.
Any ideas on what could cause the exact same problem with two different programs at two different times?

stacia,
Hello and welcome back. Let's run a more aggressive program to rule out malware completely. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these places: https://www.cleverbridge.com/342/coo...%3ddl-10804572 Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. * Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, navigate to the Update tab and click Check For Updates. It will then download the latest updates for you * Now navigate back to the Scan tab * Select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan. * The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note) * The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. * Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log. Please Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

You can have HJT remove the following:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&tp=iehome&locale=EN_US&c=Q405&bd=pavili on&pf=laptop Other than that I see nothing which could attribute to your issues

Thanks - unfortunately the problem is still occurring. Would you recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Center at this point? I'm a little worried about doing that since this is the Media Center edition of XP, but it's imperative that I get Media Center to work somehow and I am completely stumped.
