So far so good. I installed all the drivers and while it broke my IE, the keyboard now works.

And I used Media Center for a few minutes and it didn't crash while minimizing the window, so I am tentatively going to call the issue solved. Key word is "tentatively"!

Oh yeah, I'm back. Feh.

I tried minimizing the window of Windows Media Center several times last week and it was fine, but today when I started on a project (capturing images from DVD and pasting them into MS Paint for later editing) WMC crashed again after the 3rd time I minimized. I repeated the process and it did it again.

Like I said before, it's "improved" in that the entire laptop doesn't crash, just Media Center. I've sent reports to Microsoft since the error report windows come up after crashes, but I have no idea if that achieves anything or not.

The only programs running when WMC crashes are MS Paint and Elephant Reminder. I've tried disabling the Reminder and shutting down Paint, but the crashes still happen on WMC minimization.

Any other suggestions?

Could you please post your System Specs in the User CP area of the forum? Not sure if it's directly pertinent to this issue or not, but it would be good to know your RAM, hard disk, and (I don't believe System Specs asks for this) your Free disk space as well.

My hard disk space is 80 Gb, there is 28.8 Gb free. 1 Gb RAM.

I've filled in what I could on the CP, I really don't know how to find out some of this stuff like CPU.

By the way, I don't know if you need this info, but I thought I'd mention that my machine is an HP Pavilion zd8000 with Windows XP Media Center installed. The laptop is a widescreen designed specifically for movies and other entertainment media. I've had it for 3 years, never reinstalled the OS but have done regular maintenance with CCleaner, AntiVir, AdAware. I use ZoneAlarm as firewall and defrag every so often.

Also, I think I mentioned before that MS Paint and Picture It! (which came installed) used to crash just like this, but eventually corrected after I used CCleaner and updated to Service Pack 2. Now that I've done the repair/reinstall to fix Media Center, Picture It! is now crashing again, but this time only on certain menu commands. That's new. That's also in addition to the Media Center problem.

Thanks for posting the PCs specs. That does help. Your RAM is good, no issues there. How much free hard drive space does your system have?
