Yes as long as you got the right tools , and dont mind takin things apart, its pretty strait forward (no springs will come flyin out) but it might void a warrentee . No big deal if you dont have one. static is a big deal though, (you dont wanna run around the house looking for a tool then sit right down an touch the mainboard) When I dont have a wrist strap , (for static) I will sit down next to anything that is grounded (my desktop, or my metal stove) and just touch the grounded metal before i start working and if i gotta get up to get somthing i just touch the metal again before i touch the computer . Its not that bad but if your not comfortable then dont worry about it (we just wanna make sure everything is fully plugged in ) If you do decide to go in there then go ahead and clean all the built-up dust outta there (might need a Qtip for the fans) If you dont want to go in there then we'll just wait for the hardware wizard to come back.

Sorry Snoopy I dissagree with you on opening up a laptop.
Although there may be many of us who can open up a laptop and can fix an issue with the internals there are many who do not. An untrained or a person without the know how should not attempt to open up a laptop as this could cause damage that was not there befor and kill the laptop. The only advice I would give if you feel you are able is to remove charger cord and power battery.Turn her over and remove the bottom plates and check your hard drive is fully seated and if you can see any cables gently see they are fully connected. Do not fiddle in any other way other than what I have described.. But as your error appears gone I would not open her up unless the error returns. Any other than what I have posted should be handled by a trained technician. JB.

Right,
So my joy at the disappearance of the error was short-lived. When I powered on the laptop this morning, I was greeted by a 'Found New Hardware' error. In Device Manager, there are yellow exclamation marks beside the following:
As the previous poster said, I'm not sure I'm qualified to open this thing up. My housemate, however works in IT, and may be able to help. Having said that, I'm not too keen on opening this up if it could be a software issue. Thanks for all the help so far, guys, very much appreciated. |

Hi,
Today, after startup, there are yellow exclamation marks beside the following:
Under the heading "PCMCIA Adapters"
Under the heading "Secure Digital Host Controllers"
Do these shed any more light on the problem? Cheers. |

Try a reinstall of these drivers via the link I posted earlier in the week.
Then open device manager and right click on the items and choose update drivers. See if that helps.

Hi,
This may not be what you were wanting to hear but if you Disable the device in Device Manager then you will never hear from it again. This only becomes an issue if at some future point you find you cannot install a PC card (I assume thats what it controls) but that's unlikely. As long as its working now, without the card bus installed properly then it is safe to disable. I did this recently on my girlfriend's laptop. I had formatted it and installed the main drivers but there was something called a Modem for high definition audio. This seemed redundant to me as the sound was already working and continued to work after I disabled it. If you really want to install it though then try searching your laptop manufacturer's website or google for the drivers. Be careful on google and scan any files you download. If you do decide to hunt for the drivers, you should keep them all together on a CD or external drive to avoid this problem in the future. PS: The Drivers http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ID=1093#113100 PPS: Right click the device and choose Update DRiver...choose a manual install (Advanced) and Browse to the folder where you extracted the driver files too. Select the .inf file for each device. |

Thanks,
Unfortunately, I had to restart the computer to install some software. When I restarted, as usual, it had started working again. Also, being semi-clueless when it comes to this sort of stuff, I'm not sure which drivers on the HP website relate to which hardware devices. I've tried opening them up and looking for more info, but they never seem to have the same name as the driver I am trying to install etc. and I'm not keen on installing completely the wrong driver in the wrong location(if that can actually happen). |
