Default I.E. & Outlook Express probs ??

Hi Guys!
I've roamed around this forum every once in awhile and have picked up some great advice. This is my 1st post looking for some help.

I recently bought a new Dell 531 desktop.
It uses Windows XP, Internet Explorer, Outlook Expresss and has Comcast.net as ISP.
When I first got it I downloaded Mcafee Security Suite (free w/ Comcast) as AntiVirus protection.
After a few monthes of the Wife & two teenage daughters using it it started having problems. I've tried to get it all cleaned out - Unloaded Mcafee, unloaded any programs that the Wife/Daughters had downloaded, Ran Adaware, Ran Spybot, Disk Cleanup, Disk Defrag, System Restore.
(I've downloaded AVG as AV instead of Mcafee)

Right now it's running pretty good. Except:
  • Emails get stuck in the Outbox. I can receive emails fine. But, when I reply to emails or send emails they seem to get stuck? (It does seem that if I format the email as plain text it will eventually go out.)
  • Can't get to certain webpages The browser (usually msn or google) loads fine, searches fine, and the 1st Internet page will load quickly. However, going beyond the 1st page on many sites is a problem. It locks up and then "page can not be found" comes up. This is especially true trying to log in to sites like my Comcast account, Banking, Credit cards, ect.
I've roamed around a few forums looking for a fix. Tried resetting O.E. settings ect. Doesn't seem to help anything????

Any suggestions would be much appreciated?
Thanks!

In the email account properties, check the output port number.
Check with your ISP as to what the number should be.
Also, verify with them the other account settings.

This probably has to do with the IE Security tab and Personal tab settings.

Last night I followed the "prework" instructions that I saw in one of Ladygreenwich's posts.
I then tried to copy and paste the Malwarebytes/HijackThis logs into a reply to this thread. When I hit "send reply", the status bar would go about halfway and stop, eventually "page not found" would come up.
I then tried to copy logs into an email to send to my work computer. Email would not go out.

This morning I printed out the logs and scanned them here at work (see attached).
Hopefully the PCHF guru's can take a look and let me know if anything looks out of whack. Man is this frustrating!!!!
Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

Computer appears clean to me. Probably not malware causing your problem. I'll pass this back to the tech team.

Thanks, chiaz.

If you've lowered the Security setting with no luck, suggest you query your ISP. I've never used a Cable ISP. They might have differnet setting requirements.

It's worth a try.

Thanks guys!
Glad to here my machine seems clean anyways.
So I guess my next step is to get on the phone with Comcast and let them check it out from from their end?
I did try using some of the speed tests and Tweaktest. None of these would work. I also tried running Windows Update last night and it also kept going to "page not found" while scanning? Seems like maybe either trouble with my SB4100 cable modem or Comcast themselves??

So right now I've added the following on the machine:
AVG antivirus along with Ad-Aware, Spybot, Malwarebytes & HijackThis.
Also the MS Firewall that was in the machine.
Anything else I should be doing? (Other than reading this forum more often).
Thanks again for all the help!

Whilst you're waiting, do this:

Go:

Start - Run - (type) sfc /scannow (with the space)(Enter)

sfc = System File Checker restores files to their correct state.

This may require you to put in your XP CD.
