Unhappy hibernation will not hold

When I place my pc in hibernation, it will not complete. When I try to manually do it following microsoft directions, I goes and then pc restarts.
I am trying to use hibernation to save power bill when not it use, without turning it off.
Any suggestions, as I am only a beginner.

What Operating System are you using?

Is this a new problem, perhaps just starting after a new program or hardware component was installed?

I found this in my wanderings around the web, I cannot remember where exactly so cannot give due credit.

This should work for you...

Try turning Hibernation off in Power Options, reboot the PC, and then go back and turn it back on again.

This will have deleted and then recreated the hiberfil.sys file, and should hopefully eliminate any problems with that...

In my little book, (Vista OS) it says that if your PC goes to sleep then immediately wakes up it could be a USB device. Try unplugging them 1 at a time until you find the one responsible. Try it in a different port then in devicemanager-find the device listed, right click it, choose properties,power management then uncheck 'allow this device to wake computer'

Personally I have found that hibernation is not something you want to be using. There is a chance your computer will lock up on you.
If you really want to safe power it would just be better to turn the computer off.
