Default XP Activation

Hai Gais

My parents computer has a legitimate copy of XP installed but for some reason it's started asking for activation on startup. The strange thing is that when I click "Activate" a window pops up saying that it is already activated (which it is). This is happening everyday and it's counting down the days; we're currently on 5 days to go.

Can I make it stop this? I don't wanna know what happens after the 5 days are up.

I remember there was something with "Activation required" or something similar after a Service Pack installation.

Why don't you call Microsoft? They are always helpfull on such matters

Bikkit this maybe an infection it may not be.

Please run the Prework and let Security Team check the results.

I will look for more clues to this for you while you run prework.

Although have you added any new hardware?

JB.

Hey Bikkit,

Did you recently install new hardware? a change in processor, motherboard will ask for a reactivation.

a new computer as "bought it brand new with fresh copy of xp" or as "everything is new but hard drive with windows copy is from another machine"
